The popular Hickory Nut Falls trail takes you to the bottom of one of the tallest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. You get a magnificent view from the base of this 404-foot natural wonder. It was featured in the epic film, “The Last of the Mohicans.”
Kjosfossen Falls near Myrdal, Norway
The Kjosfossen waterfall, is located adjacent to the Flam Railroad tracks: The falls are 670 meters above sea level and the waterfall descent is 225 meters which yields a sound like thunder! The Flam-bound trains stop here at an observation platform built in 1951.
Bruges Belgium Market Square
This large square has been used as a marketplace since 958AD, and a weekly market was held here from 985AD. Today the large square is ringed by banks and many guild houses converted into restaurants. The Markt is filled with pedestrians and bicyclists, and is a good place to start or end a walking tour of the city.
Susten Pass (Route 11) Drive
Susten Pass (Switzerland Route 11) is a mountain pass we drove across as we departed Grindelwald on a drive to Lake Como Italy. The road, built from 1938–1945, connects Innertkirchen in the canton of Bern with Wassen in the canton of Uri. A 300-metre long tunnel crosses the pass at 2,224 meters. You can take advantage of various parking spots along the route to get pictures of the mountains.
First Flieger Zipline Ride Grindelwald Switzerland
The First Flieger is one of the most popular ziplines in Europe, ie; 2,480 feet long, a vertical drop of 675 feet, average grade of 28.4%, top speed of 55 miles per hour and four side by side cables.
Supercars in Monaco
We were hiking around the Formula One race course in Monaco, and after walking past the Fairmont Hairpin Bend, we see a Starbucks just to the east of Boulevard du Larvotto. Ordered some iced coffee and as we got a table to enjoy those drinks, we realized that we were located immediately above Boulevard Louis II which leads to the tunnel. As we looked down from the Starbucks patio, you could see a number of very high-end cars driving onto the Roundabout du Portier.
First Flieger to Grindelwald Hike
After we rode the First Flieger zipline and came down part of the mountain on the trikes, we then decided to hike the rest of the way back to Grindelwald via the trail. We could have gotten back onto the Gondola, but it was a beautiful day and the scenery we were seeing from the trail was great.
Catawba River Falls, NC
The headwaters of the Catawba River are just east of Asheville, where the river tumbles through a rolling forest, cascading in a series of waterfalls in a scenic stretch of the Pisgah National Forest. This day hike explores waterfall after waterfall in a sun-dappled valley, hiking just over two miles through a shady forest to the seeping wall of vibrant green moss and tendrils of water known as Catawba Falls.
Seville Spain Horse Carraige Ride
Taken in Seville while on a Trans-Atlantic Cruise on the Norwegian Epic. Our ship had docked in Cadiz, we took a train north to Seville so we could explore the city and the Royal Palace of Seville (Alcázar of Seville). The park (Jardines de Murillo) that is immediately in front of the Palace is extensive and as there were a number of horse drawn carraiges offering rides around the Palace, we decided to try it.
Bergen Norway Fish Market
This area reminded us of Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco ! The Fish Market is located in the heart of the city between the fjords and Bergen's 7 mountains. It has existed since the 1200s and has been a meeting place for merchants and fishermen - and now serves Bergen visitors as well.
Driving into Grindelwald from Interlaken
This is a video from our drive up the hill from Interlaken to Grindelwald. This is about a 25 minute drive (20 kilometers in distance) and the route steadily rises in altitude as you approach Grindelwald. We departed Lake Halstatt Austria early that day, so we were glad to finally be close to our destination.
Praia do Norte Surf
While driving from Northern Portugal to Lisbon, we stopped by Praia do Norte just to see the famous beach - which due
to its giant white breaking waves is famed for its surfing conditions. Nazaré's waves were listed on the Guinness Book
of Records for the biggest waves ever surfed.
This was a relatively calm day, but if you turn up your volume, you will be able to hear the sound as the surf comes
ashore.
